Guitronga—a semi-acoustic 3-piece band consisting of GUI-tar, TRO-mbone + co-NGA--was concieved to be an alternative to the typical rock band that requires large speakers, lots of drums, plenty of space and a volume level that makes it difficult to socialize.  But our instrumental lineup provides more drive and excitement than your average acoustic guitar combo.  Our goal is to allow people who love live music to have a band at a house party without overwhelming their guests and for smaller clubs to have live music at a price proportionate to their size.  So if you want Jimi Hendrix, Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Black Sabbath, AC/DC, Green Day and much more played in a way you’ve never heard before, Guitronga is your band!

Genisis:  Singer/guitarist Gerry Sommer and percussionist "Kidd" Kerwyn spent 10 years in bands together moving very large, heavy speakers in and out of bars—often in the wee hours of the morning—only to be told that the band was too loud.  “There’s got to be a better way…”  

So Kidd traded in his drum kit for a set of congas, cowbells and a cabassa and Gerry acquired battery powered guitar and PA speakers; they hit the streets of Milwaukee and gratefully accepted spare change from appreciative passersby.  But something was missing…The low end that every great rock band needs.  Enter Todd Everson, bass trombonist!
Kidd and Todd were long-time friends as well, but were never able to make a connection musically.  “I knew it would fun to play in a band with Todd,” states Kidd Kerwyn, “but I always thought it would have to be a big 8-piece horn band or something; it never occurred to me it could be a 3-piece semi-acoustic rock band…”

Seizing the opportunity to create something truly unique, Kidd called his old friend and explained his brainchild.  Incredibly, Todd’s initial, immediate response was, “No…that sounds like an awful lot of blowing...”  Then, after a brief, disappointed silence, “Wait a minute:  What are you saying you want me to do???  We should at least give it a try!”

And Guitronga was born!
